"I Sprout" is a textile installation inspired by the famous Iranian feminist anthem "The Equality Song," which begins with the verse "I sprout over my wounds because I am a woman." The artwork speaks to the resilience of women in the face of oppression.

The installation features a female body resembling a woman who was shot by 'bird shots' fired by security forces from a shotgun and had 187 pellets in her body. Similar images were shared on social media during the protests that followed the killing of Mahsa (Jina) Amini.

The artwork depicts a wounded body, with blooming flowers emerging from each wound. Through this piece, I aim to showcase the struggles of Iranian women as they fight against tyranny and patriarchy and their incredible resilience after enduring more than four decades of systemic suppression. Despite their obstacles, these women fight daily for their rights.

To create this work, I utilized crafting methods primarily created by women, such as crochet and punch needle stitches, as well as painting on fabric. These techniques honour the history of women's artistry and symbolize the strength and creativity of Iranian women in their fight for equality. "I Sprout" is a tribute to the courage and determination of Iranian women who continue to sprout and bloom despite the wounds inflicted upon them.
